i'm moderately ashamed to admit that serena was my favorite gossip girl character for the duration of television's greatest show. technically speaking it was jenny before she went b-a-n-a-n-a-s, but it was only recently that i had the ultimate revelation: not only is blair my favorite upper east sider, but she is also a confirmed style influence of yours truly. hold up: clearly miss waldorf isn't painting eyeballs on her nails, and your girl hasn't worn a headband since second grade (i actually wore hanna andersson headbands for three consecutive years in elementary school), but blair waldorf is always, always dressed for the occasion. in a interview a few years back, gossip girl costume designer eric daman articulates how blair is always "appropriate," as "she always wears exactly what you're supposed to wear" to wherever she may be going, to whatever she may be doing. as you well know, dressing for the occasion is a high art form, and as i now recognize, blair is the ultimate michelangelo.

as for the chuck bass part, we're still working on that.

that balenciaga

have you every realized that something is your favorite (insert garment, concept, or love interest memory) embarrasingly after the fact? we could be exclusively referring to men here, not an uncommon phenomenon, but case in point: balenciaga spring 2013. i have no idea how i managed to ward off the infatuation for so long, but after regularly walking by the larger than life balencaiga facade on mercer, nicolas' farewell collection is confirmed as my all-time favorite. with the exception of the miu miu ss10 cats of course, but please, that collection deserves its own category. at any rate, those ruffles regularly send me swooning, as does the silvery peeling-paint-and-glass aesthetic.

old school is the best school

once upon a time, there was a not-so-little girl who discovered that she really, really loved to take photographs. she took so many pictures with so many miscellaneous cameras that her iphoto library went on strike, and she instead had to use an external hard drive to store all 30,000 photographs the majority of which she didn't look at after a certain point, but still. and then, one day, her trusty external hard drive decided that it had been unplugged without being "properly ejected" one time too many. and it became unreadable. and the not-so-little girl lost all 30,000 of her photographs. including the twoi ballin "photoshoots" she had staged done for her blog. fortunately, this crazy chick has an instax-slash-"polaroid" camera that is covered in cat stickers that she insisted on using at the last moment during the above bambi northwood-blyth inspired adventure. so not all is lost. in the meantime, she'll be praying around the clock to the data recovery gods of silicon valley.
